Who am I

My name is Marjolein, 37 years old, from the Netherlands & moved for love to Switzerland in 2023. Before moving to Switzerland I was the owner & founder of Studio YAMA in Rotterdam. Here we provided daily yoga classes, workshops, training & ceremonies. It was a beautiful & serene space that stood for practice, knowledge, growth, joy & community.

At the start of my twenties I started with the practice of yoga during my travels in South East Asia and Australia. It was a way to move my body and connect to myself. Once back home from travelling 2,5 yrs I had difficulty finding my course of direction and was looking for some guidance. I found a 2 year yoga TTC in Rotterdam that suited perfectly for what I was looking for. Answers to who I am and what I am supposed to be doing here. Becoming a teacher of any kind in this field was never something I could have imagined.

From this moment on yoga became my life and I fully dove into all that had to do with it. I became the manager of the studio where I did my training, taught in the TTC’s & for about 4 years straight did specializations in Ayurveda, chakras, vedanta & Sanskrit studies with various teachers like Swamini Atmaprakashananda, followed many deepening courses & had a daily Ashtanga practice. In 2019 I felt it was time to step back into the ‘real’ world again and took some time off as I was close to a burn-out. It was in this year, 2019, that I started to write & create my vision for the future and all I could offer, did the MBSR teacher training & opened Studio YAMA.

Over the past 12 years I have led many classes, courses, workshops & trainings. Naturally and from my own personal experience I have become a specialist in guiding women on their paths going through heartbreaks of different kinds, (pregnancy) loss, trauma & the always returning questions of who I am and what is my purpose in life.

My approach is holistic & unique to each individual. For me the path of Self Inquiry has always been the leading one and this is deeply rooted in how I guide. I’m a Yoga teacher/therapist, believing that through movement we become more receptive to our inner voice & with that knowing who we are.

With practices & tools like Mindfulness (from Buddhism) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy I have a grounded & clear view that helps others to create mental flexibility to move along with the challenges we face and living a meaningful & happy life.

Staying for a longer time with the same teachings & guides is what matters most (for me personally) to gain insights and wisdom. Which can only evolve over time with consistent repetition, discipline, sincere efforts & the integration into our daily lives.
