This deepening course invites you into the rich world of self-knowledge, healing, and inner growth. A beautiful journey and an investment in yourself! It was born out of the heartfelt interest of participants from earlier beginners courses—wanting more knowledge, more depth, and more inner growth. There is no greater compliment as a yoga practitioner and teacher.
Many of us know yoga for its physical benefits: increased strength and flexibility, improved breathing, and deep relaxation. But yoga is so much more than that. In this course, we go beyond the physical practice—exploring what yoga truly is, what it can offer and how to integrate it more deeply into daily life.
Yoga asanas
Yoga is an ancient practice that teaches us how to find lasting inner happiness, regardless of external circumstances. Understandably, in today’s world, the physical side of yoga often takes center stage—it’s tangible, immediate, and easy to experience. But what about the more subtle layers of our being?
Perhaps you’ve felt emotional after a yoga class, or noticed a sudden boost of energy flowing through your body after certain postures. What is happening in those moments? What is the deeper meaning of this and how can we work with this?
This journey of inner stillness and mastery of the mind is called Raja Yoga. Hatha Yoga—and in fact all forms of physical practice—are considered part of this broader path.
Knowledge
Yoga is not only about postures. Ancient texts, such as the Upanishads, are like guidebooks for life and form the foundation of Jnana Yoga—the path of knowledge. These scriptures help us distinguish between what is eternal (consciousness) and what is temporary (the world perceived through our senses).
What shifts when we begin to recognize this difference? How does this knowledge influence the way we live? And how can we apply it in practical ways?
In this course, we will touch on key passages from the Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita. These texts help us understand the essence of yoga—union—and provide wisdom to support our personal experiences.
* We won’t study these texts fully, but go through them roughly, so you have a good understanding of them. For more depth of studying these texts I refer to Vedantic teachers.
Mantras
Chanting mantras is an essential part of yoga, rooted in Bhakti Yoga, the path of devotion and unconditional love. Mantras are sung in Sanskrit and connect us to pure awareness. Their vibrations resonate through different layers of our being and can often awaken deep emotions—whether you chant yourself or simply listen.
In this course, we will learn a few mantras, their meanings and the benefits of chanting. You’ll be gently encouraged to find your own voice in a supportive group setting, building trust and confidence step by step.
Practice, repetition & doing
Yoga is about connection and unity—but it is something we cultivate through practice. According to the texts, living with dedication, awareness, discipline, an open heart, and without attachment to outcomes is known as Karma Yoga, the path of action. It is an attitude we can integrate into all aspects of daily life.
Throughout the course, we will explore how the four main paths of yoga—Raja, Jnana, Bhakti, and Karma—are interwoven. While one path may resonate more at certain times, they are all connected, each enriching the other.
